It’s Back To School Time

Preparing for school…

The beginning of a new school year gives opportunities for growth and education and marks the start of a new chapter in life. There are many different emotions at play, changes for the parents and kids alike. Establishing new rules and expectations for everyone is crucial to making this shift easier and more pleasurable.

  1. Creating Routines: As the summer draws to a close, it's important to create new routines that work with the school year. This involves establishing regular wake-up and bedtime schedules to guarantee that everyone receives adequate sleep for the best performance possible during the day. Making a morning routine that includes time for breakfast and getting ready will also contribute to setting a pleasant tone for the day. Establishing after-school routines that include set aside time for schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and family time is also important.

  2. Parents and children may feel a variety of emotions as they mentally prepare to return to school. It is important to address any anxieties or concerns you or your child may have about starting a new school year or transitioning to a new grade. Create a safe space for children to express their emotions through open communication and encouragement. Encourage your children to talk about their expectations, fears, and goals for the upcoming school year. Parents you also need to have your own support system in place or call us at 570-291-5129 for help today. Additionally, as a family, take time to talk about how each family member would like to be supported throughout the school year and develop some stress management strategies to support your family's needs and desires. Teach your kids the rules of the road when they walk or ride a bike to school. If they are taking the bus, make sure they are informed of the rules and how to wait at the authorized stop. Go on a test ride with your bikers to ensure they follow the correct path.

Talk to your kids about personal safety precautions such as avoiding providing personal information with strangers and the dangers posed by strangers.

It is important to teach kids how to use the internet properly, emphasizing the need to safeguard personal information, stay away from predators online, and be aware of their digital imprint.

Talk with your child, about bullying while stressing the need of treating others with respect, kindness, and empathy. Maintain communication with your child about their peers, teachers and experiences at school.
